coal slurry combustion technology instead of oil, simultaneous removal of multi-pollutants(SOx, NOx , PAHs, Hg, HCl, HF, Dioxins, Heavy Metal, etc.)during coal/ Biomass/ MSW combustion and gasification, Hydrogen (by Biomass, Coal or Sulfur-Iodine(SI) Cycle), Multiphase Flow Numerical Simulation (DNS, DES, LES) , advanced measurements techniques and diagnostics theory and methods for combustion

Major Achievements:

R&D projects :

Over 200 R&D projects have been finished, which cover the area of combustion/ gasification and polygeneration of energy resources (coal/biomass/waste/sludge/CWS), and also including lots of international cooperation R&D projects with  United States of America, France, Canada, Switzerland, Japan and Korea etc.

Until now, the research awards has got one award for The Second Class National Awards for Nature Science; Two awards for the Second National Awards for Technological Invention; Four awards for The Second Class National Awards for Scientific and Technical Progress; One award for The Second and The Third and The Fourth Class National Awards for Technological invention have been rewarded respectively; And three awards for the Second Class National Awards for Teaching Achievements; One award for The Third Class National Awards for Scientific and Technical Progress has been achieved; Several awards for The Second Class Awards of MOE for Scientific and Technical Progress; Several awards for The Second Class Awards of Zhejiang Province for Scientific and Technical Progress have been achieved,etc;

Cultivation:

So far, 230 Ph.D., 6 Post Doctors, 526 Master have been cultivated; four persons has achieved The Cheung Kong Scholars; 27 persons are Engaged to Work as Full Professor among Ph.D.s., four National Funds for Talented Professionals, one Chief Scientist of National Basic Research Program of China (973 Program), five winners of National Talented Experts and nine winners of MOE Training Program for Excellent Scholars, Four National Excellent Doctorial Dissertations with three dissertations for nomination. etc.

International academic exchange:

Be very active in the international cooperative research, development and exchange, having intensive cooperation and exchange with world famous experts and scholars at the fields of energy and environment. Five research groups are formed including 6 members of the National Academy of Science or Technology from USA (Stanford University, Princeton Univ., UIUC, Leeds Univ.) and EU (Lund Univ., KTH). Cooperating with famous foreign universities and corporations, eight joint research centres have been set up. 21 international conferences have been hosted and 9 keynote papers have been presented at international conferences. The chair or co-chair of international conferences has been taken for 12 times.

Academic papers and patents:

Over 1059 academic papers have been published in which two hundred papers are indexed by the Science Citation Index(SCI) and more than five hundred papers are indexed by the Engineering Index(EI). 15 monographs have been published. 31 national invention patents have been authorized by the State Intellectual Property Office of China, and two of which is achieved as national excellent patent. 11 registration of software have been authorized. etc.
