Dr Haidan Chen gained both an M.A.(2004-2006) and Ph.D (2006-2009) in the Philosophy of Science and Technology at Zhejiang  University. She was a visiting postgraduate researcher at the Institute for the Study of Science Technology and Innovation (ISSTI), the University of Edinburgh, UK (2006-2007); an exchange student of the European Union 6th Research Framework project BIONET (Ethical Governance of Biological and Biomedical Research: Chinese-European Co-operation), and visited the University of York, London School of Economics, and the University of Vienna (2008); a visiting scholar at the Brocher Foundation, Switzerland (2011); a Fulbright visiting scholar at the Center for Biomedical Ethics, Stanford University. She was a postdoctoral research fellow at Zhejiang University and Asia Research Institute, National University of Singapore before she joined China Agricultural University in 2013.

She is currently a Professor at the Department of Sociology, College of Humanities and Development Studies, China Agricultural University.

Research work

Her current research relates to the governance of biomedical research, in particular stem cell translational research, biobanks, and precision medicine. More generally, her research interests embrace Science and Technology Studies, Medical Sociology, and Bioethics.
