Research Interests

1. Effects of Habitat Fragmentation on Biodiversity

Nowadays, habitat fragmentation is one of the most threats to biodiversity. The effect of habitat fragmentation on biodiversity has always been a hotspot in biodiversity conservation. The Thousand Islands Lake (TIL) is a large man-made hydroelectric reservoir, which was formed in 1959. Based on the land-bridge islands, we are interested in the effect of islands attributes (e.g. area, isolation, and shape) on taxonomic, functional and phylogenetic diversity, and the dynamic changes of species composition with the age of fragmentation.

2. Community Assembly in Subtropical forests

We use the taxonomic, functional and phylogenetic diversity method to synthetic understand the origin and maintenance of community assembly in subtropical forests. Species diversity only considers species composition and coexistence conditions in a community or ecosystem. But functional diversity (also called Functional trait diversity) refers to the value and scope of species functional traits in a special ecosystem, and phylogenetic diversity, which reflects the evolutionary history, defined as the minimum total length of all the phylogenetic branches required to span a given set of taxa on the phylogenetic tree.

3. Biodiversity Conservation

We also focused on the species diversity in the wetland park, natural reserves, and seriously disturbed areas by the human. The long-term dynamic monitor method has been used to monitor the population/community dynamics.
