Research work

His research interests include laser physics, photonic crystals and quantum optics. The detailed contents include: the temporal and/or spatial evolution of light fields through dispersive media and photonic band structures, the dynamics of photons through multi-layer structures and artificial metamaterials, the coherent theory of laser beams and pulses, and the interaction of light field and multi-level atoms. He theoretically investigated the band gap of 1DPC containing the metamaterials, and studied the Goos-Hänchen effect in dielectric films, multi-layered structures and one-dimensional photonic crystals, and also focused on the superluminal propagation of pulses in different media.On the other hand, he is also interesting in the optical tweezers . In 2009, he proposed the realization of the optical Dirac point in homogenous artificial metamaterials, and demonstrated the Zitterbewegung effect and anomalous Goos-Hänchen effect near the optical Dirac point, and revealed the quantum properties of the atomic emission and the Lamb shift of a two-level atom near the optical Dirac point. Up to now, he has totally published more than 70 refereed papers. Total other-citations are more than 1000 times. In 2007, he was awarded the second class of National University Natural Science Prize of China. As a principal investigator, he performed three NSFC projects at Zhejiang University and a Hong Kong RGC project at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
