Dr. Wei Li, professor and ASME Fellow, of Energy Engineering, Zhejiang University (ZJU), PR China, has been very active in heat and mass transfer, air conditioning research and development for 30 years since he obtained BS in mechanical engineering in the Xi'an Jiao Tong University (XJTU) in 1987. Wei Li came to the United States in 1992 to have obtained MS and Ph.D. with Prof. Ralph L. Webb in Heat Transfer in the Pennsylvania State University in 1998. After eight years’ engineering practice serving as a director of engineering in the United States, he joined the Zhejiang University (ZJU) as a full professor in 2006. ZJU was ranked No. 4 as one of the Best Engineering Universities for graduate study in the World in the U.S. NEWS and Report in 2014 and 2015. Wei Li was one of the six conference plenary speakers twice at the 2007 and 2009 Chinese National Heat Transfer Conference, respectively. Recently he made a plenary speech at the International Heat Transfer Symposium & Heat Powered Cycles Conference 2016 in University of Nottingham, UK. Wei Li’s research interests include experimental, numerical and theoretical studies on a wide variety of fundamental and applied topics. His 200 peer reviewed publications in English and Chinese are about two phase heat transfer, falling film evaporation, fouling, chemical reaction flow, compact heat exchangers, supercritical fuels, air conditioning, chemico-physical characteristics of heat-transfer surfaces, and etc. He has eight labs that provide research space 2,500 m2 for studies including condensation/evaporation flow of nano-scale heat-transfer surfaces; condensation/evaporation flow for inside/outside enhanced tube and heat exchanger; eight ton cooling/heating air-conditioning unit, fouling measurement, heat exchangers capable of flows up to 1500 kg/h, (vapor) and 100, 000 kg/h (water). He has provided testing service for universities such as MIT, Penn State, Lund, University of Minnesota, etc.; and for companies in the US, France, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Japan, and many companies in China. Wei Li enjoys discussion with his graduate students. His Master graduate obtained full scholarship and continued Ph.D. study in Department of Mechanical Engineering at MIT in US; His Doctor graduate obtained a faculty offer as assistant professor in Department of Energy Engineering at Lund University in Sweden. Three empirical correlations by Wei Li and his Ph.D. candidate were adopted in Two-Phase flow of "2012-2016 ASHRAE Handbook - Fundamentals". He is a regional editor for Journal of Enhanced Heat Transfer and an associate editor for ASME Journal of Thermal Sciences and Engineering Applications. He has been serving as one of the thirty members of executive committee of Chinese Society of Heat Transfer which has 50,000members since 2010, and a Fellow of American Society of Mechanical Engineer in 2012.
