Profile

    Microbials are one of the rich resources of intriguing natural products for drug development. Our group is focusing on pleiotropic genome mining of natural products for their potentiallity in pharmaceutical development, understanding the biological and chemical mechanisms of their biosynthesis, and rational reconfiguration of regulatory and biosynthetic pathways for effective production of microbial pharmaceuticals and for their industrial applications.

     Xu-Ming Mao received his B.S. in Fudan University, and Ph.D. degrees from Chinese Academy of Sciences, where he studied on the regulatory mechanisms of morphogenesis of the pathogenic fungus Candida albicans. Then he joined in Prof. Yong-Quan Li’s laboratory, Zhejiang University, and started his postdoctoral research on Streptomyces genetics and regulation on secondary metabolism. He was appointed as an associate professor (2010). Then, he was appointed as a full professor (2015) in Zhejiang University. During 2013-2015, he worked as a visiting scholar in Prof. Yi Tang’s laboratory, UCLA, on the epigenetic genome mining and biosynthetic pathway elucidation of the natural products from filamentous fungi.
