Geophysics Beyond Lithosphere

Xu Yixian has been full professor of geophysics at Zhejiang University since July,2016. He currently guides a group dedicated to developing and applying comprehensive geophysical techniques for multi-scale imaging of the Earth's interior; particular emphasis is placed on magnetotelluric and seismic methods.

     Xu completed his PhD studies at CUG in 1996, and then became assistant professor in his mother college. After two years he accepted an invitation to work for UTEC Limited at Hongkong for one year. After his back to CUG, he was selected the Head of Department of Geophysics that is now known as Institute of Geophysics and Geomatics at CUG. He had been a visiting scholar and visiting professor at Kansas University in 2004, 2006 and 2008. He also had been a research fellow at University of Texas at Austin in 2005. He is now a board member of Chinese Geophysical Society (CGS), Professional Committee Chairman of engineering geophysics division of CGS, board member of apply evaluation of NSFC Geophysical Department, and active member of SEG as well.

     During his thirty years working in geophysics, he developed and applied various geophysical methods in investigation of the lithosphere, the sedimentary basin, and near-surface applications. He has been the PI of five NSFC projects and many other projects granted by industrial companies. He helped initiate the internationally recognized SinoProbe program and manage SinoProbe-01-03 project. He has authored or co-authored more than 70 research papers published in international and Chinese journals and books, and more than 80 research articles that have appeared in refereed conference proceedings volumes.
