Dr. Du obtained his PhD degree in Physics at the University of Utah in 1995. He joined General Electric Company as a senior MRI engineer in 1995; joined the R&D team at the Applied Science Lab, General Electric in 1997. He joined the Brain Research Imaging Center at the University of Chicago as an Assistant (Research) Professor to establish a 3T functional MRI (fMRI) facility in 2000. He joined the University of Colorado School of Medicine as an Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Radiology in 2002. He served as the Technical Director of the Brain Imaging Center since 2002. He served as Co-Director of Human Imaging at the Colorado Translational Research Imaging Center since 2008. Dr. Du was promoted to Professor of Psychiatry and Radiology at University of Colorado in 2009.

Dr. Du joined the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Zhejiang University as an endowed chair professor in 2010, with the honor of National Expert. He is the Director of MRI Research Lab.

Dr. Du has served as Associate Chair of the Medical Imaging Physics committee of Chinese Medical Physics Society.

Research work

Dr. Du's primary research interests include: methodological development of MRI, functional MRI, fast pulse sequences, quantitative MRI, MR angiography, susceptibility-weighted imaging (SWI), cardiac MRI, image reconstruction, and image reconstruction.
