Prof. Youtong Fang, deputy dean of China Academy of West Region Development in Zhejiang University, Director of Research Centre for High-speed Railway, deputy director of National Train Intelligent Engineering Technology Research Center, panel member of "China's High-speed Train Joint Action Plan for Independent Innovation" Group jointly founded by Ministry of Railways and Ministry of Science and Technology, subject-matter expert in modern transportation of the "12th Five-Year Plan" and "863 Program" of Ministry of Science and Technology. Recently he presided over one key research project and four General Programs supported by National Natural Science Foundation in China. He achieved the second prize of National Scientific and Technological Progress Award twice, the first prize of provincial science and technology progress award twice and the first prize of provincial science and technology progress award three times. He has published over 80 papers and was granted ten China National invention patents and one Japanese patent. He carried out a number of innovative research in the traction drive field of high speed train and has achieved notable achievements.  The first permanent magnet traction motor in China which is applied in the 350km/h high speed train was developed under his supervision, and the core indexes of the permanent magnet traction motor, especially in efficiency and power density, have reached the international leading level.
