Zhe Zhang is the associated professor at the Department of Pathogen biology and Microbiology, School of Basic Medical Sciences, School of Medicine, Zhejiang University. Her research interest is to seek solutions in prevention, treatment and diagnosis of tuberculosis caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis, especially drug-resistant tuberculosis.

     She obtained her bachelors' degree in Engennering of Microbiology from the Department of Microbiology at Shandong University in 1996. She received her doctorate degree in Cell Biology from Shanghai Institute of Biochemistry and Cell Biology, Chinese Academy of Sciences under the supervision of professor Gang Pei in 2001. After graduation, she went to USA to work with professors James M. Wilson at the Department of Medicine and Jeffrey N. Weiser at the Department of Microbiology as a postdoctoral researcher and then research associate at the University of Pennsylvania, School of Medicine. For these years, she focused on the study of how host defenses against bacterial infections in the respiratory system.

    In 2010 and since, she joined in Zhejiang University School of Basic Medical Sciences to start her own scientific research as a faculty. She has been enthusiastic about both her research as well as teaching medical students and graduate students. She has also been taking a role as Honorable Editors of international open access research journals of Microbiology.
