Dr. Zou is an associate professor in Institute of Materia Medica, College of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Zhejiang University, China.
Dr. Zou started undergraduate training from 1998 and received his bachelor degree of science in College of Pharmaceutical Sciences Zhejiang University. In 2007, Dr Zou received his Ph.D degree in medicinal chemistry from Zhejiang University, where he carried out structure optimization and bioactivity evaluation of bioactive natural products derivatives. Then, he completed postdoctoral work at the University of Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (Mainz University) Germany, where he studied structure biology and enzymatic chemistry of strictosidine synthase, the key enzyme of alkaloid biosynthesis.
Dr. Zou was selected as Qianjiang Talented Scholar of Zhejiang Province and one of the first Distinguished Qiushi Young Scientists of Zhejiang University for his distinguished scientific research.

Research work

The main focus of our lab is to Chemical biology study on biosynthetic approach to biological active natural metabolites and their potential therapeutic value. We are especially interested in the biosynthetic enzyme and gene clusters involved in bioactive natural products biosynthesis such as alkaloids. In vitro utilization of these linked enzymes, such as enzymatic chemistry, are carried out to make bioactive small molecule libraries with diversification for drug discovery.
