Research Interests

Professor Xu has more than ten years of experience specialized in deep learning, natural language processing, and computer vision, in particular transfer learning, large-scale pretrained models, geometric learning, editive & generative models, domain adaptation and task generalization. He had another ten years of experience in physics and math. Hence now he is also performing cross-disciplinary research in AI, physics, and math, borrowing ideas and solutions from one field to solve problems that may not be easy or well understood in other areas, for example AI for novel material discovery.

Biographical Sketch

Renjun Xu is currently ZJU100 Young Professor at Zhejiang University. He received PhD degree from University of California, Davis. He had professional experience in industry as well, held various senior R&D positions, such as Research Scientist, Senior Director of Data and Artificial Intelligence at renowned companies at San Francisco Bay Area. He possesses full-stack technology experience from hands-on coding to project management on massive scale of data, performed machine learning model development for multiple national and global projects. All of his mentored and referred students have successfully received offers from prestigious schools such as MIT, Harvard, Yale, CMU, and etc. He has good publication record on top artificial intelligence journals and conferences, including IEEE Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (CVPR), International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence (IJCAI), IEEE Transactions on Knowledge and Data Engineering (TKDE), Nuclear Physics B, Journal of Physics B, Modern Physics Letter A and etc, and have been cited by fellows from Harvard University, MIT, Google DeepMind, and etc. He was nominated for the award for Outstanding Youth Papers at the 2020 World Artificial Intelligence Conference. He serves as the Associate Editor of the SCI journal "Big Data Research" (IF:3.735), and a Program Committee (PC) member of TPAMI, CVPR, NIPS, AAAI, and etc.
