Dr. Alessandro Bonfini is currently an Assistant Professor at Zhejiang University – University of Edinburgh Institute (ZJE).
He obtained his bachelor's and master’s degrees from the University of Ferrara (Ferrara, Italy), where he worked in the laboratory of Dr. Paolo Pinton.
During his Ph.D. in stem cell biology at the University of Manchester (Manchester, UK) in Dr. Martin Baron’s laboratory, he studied the impact of nutrition on the regulating microenvironment ( niche) of Drosophila melanogaster germline stem cells.
For his postdoctoral research, he moved upstate New York to Cornell University (Ithaca, NY, USA), in the laboratory of Dr. Nicolas Buchon. Here he studied how microbes and food affected the intestine of Drosophila melanogaster and regulated the activity of intestinal stem cells.
Dr. Bonfini research has been published in journals such as eLife, Cell Reports, PNAS, Cell Host & Microbe, PLOS Genetics and more.
Dr. Bonfini’s laboratory has openings for graduate students for 2025.
We also welcome enquiries from 1st year undergraduate students going into second year for summer research projects.
