Dr. Qiangbing Guo
Professor, Zhejiang University "Hundred Talents Program" | Doctoral Supervisor
Dr. Qiangbing Guo is a Professor at Zhejiang University under the "Hundred Talents Program" and a doctoral supervisor, recognized by the National High-Level Youth Talent Program. He earned his Ph.D. in Engineering from Zhejiang University in 2017, with a visiting period at Tokyo Institute of Technology in Japan. Following his Ph.D., he conducted postdoctoral research at Zhejiang University and the National University of Singapore. He joined the College of Optical Science and Engineering, Zhejiang University, in 2024.
Dr. Guo’s research focuses on light-matter interactions and novel optoelectronic devices, with an emphasis on nonlinear and anisotropic optical/optoelectronic materials and devices. He has published over 30 papers, including more than 10 as the first or corresponding author in high-impact journals such as Nature, Nature Photonics, Nature Communications, Advanced Materials, ACS Nano, Laser & Photonics Reviews, Advanced Optical Materials, and Optic Express. His work has been cited over 2,000 times, including four ESI Highly Cited Papers. He holds seven national invention patents and has received numerous accolades, such as being recognized by the OPTICA (the former Optical Society of America) as one of the annual global optics highlights (Optics in 2023, only 30 items selected worldwide each year), being nominated for China’s Top 10 Optical Advances and Top 10 Social Impact Optical Events (Light10), and receiving the Natural Science Award of Zhejiang Province (Second Class). His work has also been featured and covered in major domestic and international media outlets, including People’s Daily Online, Xinhua News, Global Times, Phys.org, EurekAlert! (AAAS), and Nature Asia. He has served as an independent reviewer for multiple international journals, including Nature Communications, Advanced Materials, Nano Letters, ACS Nano, NPG Asia Materials, Advanced Science, Advanced Optical Materials, and Optic Express.
Representative Contributions:
Developed a class of 2D crystals with very strong second-order nonlinearity, demonstrated the world's first and ultrathin nonlinear quantum light source based on 2D crystals (Nature 2023), and further constructed polarization-entangled states through van der Waals engineering (Nature Communications 2024).
Developed a class of broadband, ultrafast-response, low-cost saturable absorbers and pulse lasers (Advanced Materials 2017 & 2017, ACS Nano 2016 & 2018).
Discovered highly in-plane anisotropic 2D crystal, paving way for ultracompact and on-chip integrated light-polarization-manipulating devices (Nature Photonics 2024).
Proposed topological structure engineering of glass materials for broadband and tunable emission and optical amplification (Advanced Materials 2014, OE 2013 & 2014).
Research Interests:
Nonlinear optics: material physics and device applications.
Extreme optical properties of low-dimensional systems and their photonic device applications.
Novel optoelectronic phenomena in quantum materials.
Micro-nano fabrication technology.
Prof. Guo is dedicated to building a multidisciplinary research team with an open, vibrant and collaborative atmosphere, focusing on application-oriented fundamental research in optoelectronic information technologies. He welcomes talented postdoctoral researchers, graduate students (including joint training programs), and undergraduate students with backgrounds in (but not limited to) optics (experimental/theoretical simulation), optoelectronic devices, materials/condensed matter physics, and chemistry to join his group.
