Research interests
Extensional tectonics
(1) 3D geometry and evolution of fault system and its interaction with sedimentary basins (e.g. fault nucleation, fault propagation, and linkage) and fault zone evolution in multiphase rifting; This study is conducted by integrating detailed field mapping, 3D seismic interpretation, and analogue modelling;
(2) 3D fault network interaction, local stress induced fractures development and extensional fault-related folding.
Contractional tectonics
(1) 3D geometry and evolution of basement-involved inversion tectonics and the associated folding deformation, with particular focus on fold linkage;
(2) Salt-tectonics, this study is integrated by using field mapping, 3D seismic interpretation, and analogue modelling;
(3) The development of fold-accommodation faults.
Continental rifting and passive margin development
(1) The influence of pre-existing structures on continental rifting; This research focus on the property of pre-existing grains (e.g. strength, geometry, and distribution) and its control on strain localisation and migration during rifting;
(2) The influence of lithosphere rheology (vertical and lateral change of lithosphere viscosity) on continental rifting, with particular focus on the development of extensional fault systems, magmatism, and basins. This research incooperate 3D seismic data, magnetic and gravity data, and analogue modelling for comprehensive study of passive margins of the South China Sea and other passive margins worldwide.
