HE YONG

Ph.D.  Professor

EDUCATION/CAREER EXPERIENCE: He Yong got his B.Arch. and M.Arch. in Xi’an University of Architecture and Technology（XUAT） at 1995 and 1998, and Ph.D. degree in Zhejiang University at 2004. He once worked in XUAT as a lecturer (1998-1999) and in Yichang urban planning bureau as a planning officer (2000-2001). He also studied in Hong Kong Poly-technology University(2003) and Technique University of Munich (2007-2008) .Since 2004, He Yong works in the department of architecture of Zhejiang university， and was promoted as professor in 2012.

ACADEMIC RESEARCH: Prof. He Yong’s research field is about the theory and design method of regional/vernacular building and environment. In the past ten years, he has been in charge of 5 national science foundation sponsored projects, published 5 books and more than 50 papers. He Yong is well connected with a lot of universities and institutions both domestic and abroad. Since 2010, he organized a series of workshop with SUPSI University of Switzerland and Hong Kong University，and explored  the suitable space and technology integration on energy-efficient small buildings. His latest book“Living in China：A Survey of Changes in China’s Family Dwellings since 1949”(published in 2017) is also the result of co-operation with Dr. Xie Xiaoping from Leibniz Institute for ecological city and regional development in Germany.

TEACHING: In the past 10 years, Prof. He Yong organized series of studio projects for the senior undergraduate and post-graduate students; the projects’ topic is about the relationship between the space/ topography and everyday life. In addition, he opened the course about the guide-reading on academic books in Architecture, and the purpose is to foster students’ basic academic research skills and method.

PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE: Prof. He Yong has done a lot of urban/village planning and designing projects, especially in recent years, he designed many small public buildings and facilities in Anji county of Zhejiang province. Those projects are widely published by many magazines and won several awards, such as the first prize of China urban/rural planning academy (2011), the first prize of Zhejiang urban/rural planning academy (2011), the second prize of Zhejiang Provincial construction ministry (2011).
